Error: "Error 1904 - Module C:\Program Files\Common Files..." appears during installation of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition


Situation:
You are installing the Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (NAVCE) client. During the installation, you see the error message "Error 1904 - Module C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SSC\Transman.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024770. Contact your support personnel."

Solution:
Registering Transman.dll has solved this problem for customers. Select the appropriate section based for the operating system installed on the computer experiencing this error.

To register Transman.dll under Windows NT/ 2000/XP

  1. Insert CD 2, and then open Windows Explorer.
  2. Browse to the following path:

    <CD-ROM drive>\NAVCORP\ROLLOUT\AVSERVER\CLIENTS\WIN32\SUPPORT
  3. Copy the following files to <drive>:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 for Windows NT/2000 and to the C:\Windows\System32 for Windows XP:
    Transman.dll
    Cba.dll
    Msgsys.dll
    Nts.dll
    Pds.dll
  4. Click Start, and then click Run.
  5. Type regsvr32 c:\winnt\system32\transman.dll and then press Enter.


    Note: Windows XP users, type: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\transman.dll and then press Enter.

Verify that you are logged in as the Local Administrator to this computer.

Windows 9x Installations
  1. Look for the existence of an SSC folder in the following location:
    <drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared

    If the SSC folder does not exist, then create the folder.
  2. Copy Transman.dll to the following location:
    <drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SSC

    The Transman.dll file is found at the following locations:

    NAVCE 7.5x CD1
    <cdrom drive>:\NavCorp\Rollout\AVServer\Clients\Win32\Support

    Symantec AV 8.0 CD1
    <cdrom drive>:\NAVCORP\ROLLOUT\AVSERVER\

    An alternate location is the following directory on the NAVCE or Symantec AV server:
    <drive>:\Program Files\NAV\clt-inst\Win32\Support
  3. Copy the following files (from the appropriate Support directory above) to the location: <drive>:\Windows\System.
    Cba.dll
    Msgsys.dll
    Nts.dll
    Pds.dll
  4. Click Yes to overwrite files already present in that directory.
  5. Install NAVCE or Symantec AV.


Note: If you encounter the error: "Error 25010 - Failed to initialize Transman.dll", and NAVCE or Symantec AV is being installed over a consumer version of NAV (such as NAV 2000), you must manually uninstall the previous version. Then run the RNAV2003 utility before using the steps above.
